Many people want to install solar panels, but are unsure if a solar system will perform well in climates that frequently have cloudy or snowy weather. The answer is YES, solar does work on cloudy days even in the harsh climates of Idaho and Eastern Washington!

Variables that will affect the efficacy of your system include:

  • Panel efficiency
  • Energy Credits
  • Energy Storage

With a deep understanding of local energy needs, RevoluSun offers the unique ability to design and build systems that maximize your efficiency and savings in the Pacific Northwest climate. To get a free system design and estimate of costs, fill out our contact form or book an appointment

Panel Efficiency

All of the solar panels we use at RevoluSun are designed to perform in the harsh winter conditions of the PNW, maximizing energy generation even amidst low-light conditions like mornings, evenings, and cloudy days. At RevoluSun, we offer two panel types based on efficiency, so you can decide what works best for you!

Energy Credits

As long as your system is sized correctly, there should be no issue with generating enough power to get you through all seasons of the year!

At RevoluSun, we take 30 years of historical weather data into account when designing and sizing your system. A correctly sized system will allow you to generate more energy than you need in the summer months.

This overproduction will allow you to create a bank of credits with your utility company. You can then utilize those credits in the winter when you are producing less energy, so that you continue to receive a net zero utility bill even through the cloudy and snowy months.

Energy Storage

A further way to ensure you have self-produced energy available even during harsh weather conditions is to include energy storage in your solar system installation.

You can achieve whole home backup by storing the energy generated from your solar panels with RevoluSun’s energy storage options: Tesla Powerwall or other battery solution.

By storing excess energy produced by your solar panels, your home batteries allow you to use stored power during times when the sun isn’t shining, which can lead to greater cost savings on your electricity bills.

To further maximize your solar investment, we recommend installing a smart electrical panel as well!

Solar Panel Cleaning

Keeping your solar panels clean is an important part of maintaining peak performance, especially in Idaho where dust, pollen, and winter grime can accumulate. Regular solar panel cleaning helps ensure your system continues to generate maximum energy output throughout the year. Our team can advise you on the best practices for solar panel cleaning in our local climate.
